A chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos has sentenced Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele Bello and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, to a 14-day community service each for flouting the government’s lockdown order.

Daily Trust reports that Akindele-Bello, popularly called Jenifa, was arrested by the Police in Lagos on Sunday for hosting a birthday party in honour of her husband, Bello, with more than 20 persons in attendance contrary to the social distancing order by the Federal and Lagos State governments.

The party had in attendance some of her friends including ‘Tesumole’ crooner Azeez Fashola a.k.a. Naira Marley, among others. Chief Magistrate Yewande Aji-Afunwa on Monday ordered Akindele-Bello and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, also known as JJC Skillz to pay N100,000 fine each and also asked them to undergo compulsory self-isolation for 14 days.

The Court handed down the judgement after the couple pleaded guilty to a one-count criminal charge of violating the law restricting movement in Lagos state. Earlier, Akindele-Bello arrived the court at about 11:00am following her arrest by the Police for contravening lockdown imposed on the state by President Muhammadu Buhari to contain the spread of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Before the court sentence on Monday, Nigerians on social media, especially Instagram and Twitter, had also berated Akindele-Bello and other attendees for violating the government’s lockdown order. Meanwhile, Naira Marley has surrendered himself to the Lagos state Police Command after violating the lockdown order.

DSP Bala Elkana, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, said he will also be charged to Court for violating the restriction orders.
