Alitalia and Air France-KLM will discontinue their collaboration with Air France-KLM as of January 2017. Yesterday Aitalia announced that the expiring contracts will not be extended. Alitalia want to determine their own course and according to CEO Silvano Cassano, the Italian airline is constrained to do so at the moment.

The contracts were signed in 2009 and 2010, back when Alitalia was doing way worse. According to the CEO, Air France-KLM reaped the rewards of the fact that Alitalia had gotten a fund of 300 million that helped them stay upright. The CEO also said that the Italian airline tried to make new agreements in which both parties would benefit, but failed.

Air France-KLM announced in an official statement to be aware of the decision of Alitalia and stressed that the current agreement will continue until January 2017.
