Ethiopian Airlines was awarded the African Aviacargo Airline of the year as the biggest and Best Cargo carrier in Africa. This was at the 3rd Chinet Aviacargo Conference in Lagos.

This is anchored on the remarkable feat of growth by the Airline. Ethiopian Airlines Group has solidified its position as Africa’s premier aviation entity, They showcased this during the prestigious 3rd Aviacargo Conference in Lagos. The General Manager of Ethiopian Airlines in Nigeria Wondwossen Beyene highlighted the group’s stunning achievements across both passenger and cargo operations.

Passenger travel has seen an impressive uptick, with a monumental surge from 8.86 million passengers in the 2021/22 period to a staggering 13.88 million passengers in the 2022/23 timeframe, marking an astounding 60% increase. Moreover, cargo operations have experienced a notable transformation, with the group handling 767,848 tons of cargo in the 2021/22 period, diminishing slightly to 713,875 tons in the 2022/23 term.

Boasting a modern fleet consisting of 145 aircraft currently in service and an additional 32 on order, Ethiopian Airlines Group maintains an average fleet age of 7.0 years, ensuring operational excellence and passenger satisfaction.

The group’s extensive network of hubs including Addis Ababa, Lomé, Lilongwe, Lusaka, and soon the Democratic Republic of Congo, continues to expand its global footprint. The existing array of 133 international and 22 domestic destinations has been further augmented by a robust cargo network encompassing 67 freighter destinations.

Ethiopian Airlines Group’s diversified aviation business portfolio includes Ethiopian Airports, Ethiopian Ground Services, Ethiopian Aviation Academy, Inflight Catering, Ethiopian MRO, Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, Ethiopian Express Services (Domestic), Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services, and Ethiopian International Passenger Services.

Notably, Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services stands out as the largest air freight operator in Africa, bridging the continents with an impressive 67 freighter destinations worldwide. With a fleet of 11 wide-body and 4 narrow-body freighters, the group’s cargo arm offers comprehensive services including the transportation of general cargo, live animals, pharmaceuticals, horticultural products, and even valuable cargo.
