Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) is the world’s busiest airport in March 2024, according to data analyzed by OAG.
According to a report by simpleflying.com, the month before, it lost its top position to Dubai International Airport (DXB) but is back to being no. 1 again.
OAG calculates the Top 10 Busiest Global Airports in the World by using total airline capacity (domestic and international flights). ATL offered 5,201,779 seats, while DXB, which slipped to the second spot, had 4,989,008 seats. Rounding out the top three was Tokyo Haneda (HND) with 4,552,302 seats.
The remaining six airports on the list are London Heathrow (LHR), Dallas/Fort Worth Intl (DFW), Guangzhou (CAN), Denver International Airport (DEN), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), and Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).
Atlanta and Denver saw the biggest increases in seats per day this month compared to last, with both airports adding 9% more. Guangzhou saw the biggest seat decrease this month, Delhi moved up into the top 10, and Istanbul dropped out.
Other figures
Atlanta is also the primary hub for Delta Air Lines and sees plenty of domestic flights every month. But when it comes to just international flights, it drops out from the top 10 list. OAG calculates the Top 10 Busiest International Airports using international airline capacity only.
The top three airports on this list are Dubai International (DXB) with 4,989,008 seats, London Heathrow (LHR) with 4,002,343 seats, and Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) with 3,434,207 seats. Seoul, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Paris, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, and Doha all feature in the top ten international airports list.
In Europe, London maintains its top position as the busiest airport in the continent. Others in the top 10 list include Istanbul, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome Fiumicino, Munich, and London Gatwick.
