Astral Aviation Freighter

A historic milestone was achieved on May 27, 2025, as an Astral Aviation freighter became the first Kenyan-registered and Kenyan-owned aircraft to land in Australia, touching down in Brisbane after a flight from Hong Kong.

According to msn, this event is noted as a historic milestone, with records of a Kenyan-owned and operated aircraft landing in Australia.

Astral Aviation, a Nairobi-based cargo airline, operates a fleet including Boeing 747s and 767s, and this flight marked a significant achievement in Kenyan aviation history, enabling it to serve over 50 destinations.

Astral Aviation has also commenced a new scheduled Boeing 767-300 Freighter service between Hong Kong and Brisbane, operated on behalf of Aus Air Cargo. The route is designed to meet rising demand for capacity on the Asia–Australia trade lane, driven by cross-border e-commerce, perishables, and general freight.

The new flights add to Aus Air Cargo’s regional uplift, reinforcing Brisbane’s position as a strategic freight hub for eastbound and westbound flows. Ground handling is supported by dnata, while M&C Aviation Group acts as GSA in Australia.

The Nairobi-based carrier, traditionally focused on Africa–Asia routes, is now expanding its reach into the Australian market. The B767-300F offers a versatile payload profile suited to time-sensitive cargo, including fresh produce and online retail shipments.

Kenyan-owned aircraft have increased over time, with ownership evolving from mainly government and agricultural use in the early years to include more private individuals, businesses, and charter companies due to economic growth, tourism, and expanded regional connectivity.

However, in a significant milestone, on May 27, 2025, an Astral Aviation freighter became the first Kenyan-registered and Kenyan-operated aircraft to land on Australian soil, arriving in Brisbane from Hong Kong.
