Kotoka International Airport

The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the management of Kotoka International Airport, has commenced expansion work at Terminal 2 to enhance passenger experience and accommodate growing air traffic demand.

According to ghanaweb, this is intended to reduce congestion at Terminal 3 and enhance overall efficiency.

The expansion of Terminal 2 will accommodate both domestic and international flights, with operations rolled out in two distinct phases.

The Minister of Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, during a working visit to the airport, explained that the project aims to increase the airport’s capacity to better manage the growing volumes of passengers and cargo.

“If you visit Terminal 3 at rush hour, you will realize that there is congestion. So, we have divided Terminal 2 into two phases: one for domestic flights, and the area where we are currently standing will serve international flights.

“This way, we can transfer some of the load from Terminal 3 here, thereby decongesting Terminal 3 and providing more comfort and space for our travelers,” he was quoted as saying by citinewsroom.com.

This move comes after Terminal 3 at KIA has experienced increasing congestion in recent years.

According to the ministry, the renovation of Terminal 2 is expected to significantly improve the passenger experience while enhancing the efficiency of services at the airport.
