Aviation: Nigerian Carrier, Green Africa Acquires First Owned Aircraft, After losing 3 aircraft to its lessor

Green Africa has achieved a significant milestone with the acquisition of its first owned aircraft, an ATR 72-500 with the registration mark 5N-GAB, after the airline’s lessor, ACIA Aero Leasing repossessed three of its ATR 72-600 planes, from the carrier.

The aircraft landed in Lagos on amidst cheers marking a new phase in the airline’s expansion.

The purchase was partially financed through a naira debt facility provided by Access Bank, one of Nigeria’s largest financial institutions.

Green Africa’s CEO, Babawande Afolabi, expressed gratitude to the bank for its support, describing the acquisition as a crucial step toward strengthening the airline’s commitment to safe, affordable, and reliable air travel across the region.

“We deeply appreciate Access Bank for taking the lead in shaping what we hope to be the future of local aircraft financing in Nigeria and the broader continent,” Afolabi said.

Since its launch in 2021, Green Africa has aimed to provide cost-effective air travel solutions for Nigerians. The acquisition of 5N-GAB reinforces this mission, ensuring greater operational efficiency as the airline scales up its services.

Afolabi also acknowledged the role of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in supporting the airline’s growth and reaffirmed Green Africa’s commitment to delivering quality service to its customers.

“As 5N-GAB enters commercial service, our valued gCustomers can count on us to continue fulfilling our promise of safe, affordable, and reliable air travel across the country and the continent,” he added.

With this milestone, Green Africa moves closer to its goal of becoming a leading value carrier in Africa, promising an improved travel experience for its customers.
