Royal Air Maroc is preparing for a significant fleet expansion, reportedly engaging in discussions with several aircraft manufacturers to acquire as many as 200 new planes.
According to sources cited by Reuters, the move signals the airline’s ambition to boost its global presence and meet growing travel demand across Africa and beyond.
According to simpleflying.com, the move comes as the African airline seeks to modernize and significantly expand its aging fleet.
According to the Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo, the Moroccan flag carrier is considering Embraer’s second-generation E2 jet family alongside options from Airbus and Boeing. The specific composition of the rumored 200-aircraft order has yet to be revealed.
Royal Air Maroc Eyes Embraer’s E2 Series
According to media reports, Royal Air Maroc is considering Embraer’s E-Jet E2 series for its upcoming aircraft order for its regional and medium-haul operations. The E2 series targets a market segment just below the 150-seat-and-above category, which is largely dominated by Boeing and Airbus. Embraer has already supplied four E190 jets to Royal Air Maroc, according to ch-aviation data.
While the specific variants under discussion have not been revealed, the E2 family includes a range of models, from the smaller E175-E2 to the mid-sized E190-E2, and the largest option, the 146-seat E195-E2. Royal Air Maroc has been evaluating new aircraft options for over a year, considering proposals from both Airbus and Boeing.
Earlier reports indicated that the Moroccan carrier was likely to continue its longstanding relationship with Boeing, particularly for medium-range aircraft such as the 737 MAX 8 and the 787 Dreamliner. According to a report by Bloomberg in June 2025, Boeing’s portion of the potential deal could include around 24 long-haul 787s and up to 50 medium-haul 737s. Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Airbus is seeking to gain a rare foothold with Royal Air Maroc through a smaller order of 20 A220 jets, its compact narrowbody aircraft tailored for the 150-seat market.
