Aviation: Royal Air Maroc and China Southern Airlines strengthen China-Africa air connectivity with new codeshare partnership

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and China Southern Airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve air connectivity between China and Africa, responding to the rising demand for travel between the two regions.

According to maroc.ma, as part of the agreement, China Southern and Royal Air Maroc will expand their interline cooperation and establish a codeshare partnership to enhance connectivity between their respective air networks, according to a joint press release.

The goal is to offer travelers diverse options to Chinese, Asian, and African destinations through the extensive networks of both airlines, the companies stated.

“This is a significant step for China Southern Airlines, aligning with the Belt and Road Initiative. It marks the starting point for cooperation between the two carriers,” said Qu Guangji, Executive Vice-President of China Southern Airlines, as cited in the press release.

Similarly, Hamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc, said this partnership marks a major step in strengthening tourism, economic, and commercial ties between the two regions.

“By leveraging our mutual strengths, we are committed to providing travel experiences that foster the relationship between Africa and China, while also facilitating greater access to Morocco for Chinese tourists,” he added.

The two airlines will also explore opportunities for collaboration in passenger and cargo transport, to ensure a smoother, simplifier and higher-quality services, according to the press release.

As a reminder, RAM resumed the first direct flight connecting Morocco to China on January 20, 2025. The direct Casablanca-Beijing route is now operated by the national carrier three times a week.
