TAAG Angola Airlines is implementing a fleet modernization strategy centred on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A220-300, with the two aircraft types assigned complementary roles across its long-haul and African networks.
The airline says the new-generation fleet is intended to improve efficiency, passenger experience and environmental performance as it expands its connectivity.
TAAG Angola Airlines is using a dual-fleet strategy built around the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A220-300 as it seeks to improve operational efficiency and strengthen its position in African aviation.
CEO Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira in interview with African Skies by AFRAA said the choice of aircraft was a strategic decision designed to match different aircraft types with different market segments.
The Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 are being dedicated to intercontinental operations, while the Airbus A220-300 is being deployed for intra-African connectivity.

Rodrigues said the strategy would enable the airline to maximize revenue and efficiency across different markets while supporting its ambitions for international and regional growth.
“These latest-generation aircraft bring enhanced efficiency to our operation and a premium experience for our passengers,” he said.
The airline also linked the fleet renewal programme to its sustainability objectives, citing reductions in emissions and noise pollution associated with the new-generation aircraft.
Beyond the aircraft themselves, TAAG is investing in improvements to the passenger journey.
The airline is finalizing its Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) concept, which is expected to provide onboard Wi-Fi and allow passengers to access content and TAAG’s digital services during flights.
TAAG has also launched a new website and mobile application through which passengers can book flights, check in and manage their trips.
The airline said its call centre teams receive regular training, while customer support is also available through WhatsApp, including interoperability with digital payment solutions.
The fleet strategy is being implemented alongside TAAG’s wider transformation programme, which is guided by six strategic pillars: people and community, organisational efficiency, operational excellence, commercial superiority, connectivity and hub development, and financial sustainability.
The airline’s 2024–2029 Strategic Plan also identifies partnerships, innovation and technology, infrastructure and culture as key accelerators for its transformation.
