The World famous Calabar Carnival will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year. As usual the preparations starts months early with practice runs. These dry runs announces the start of the carnival season for the residents of Calabar. The dry runs enables the bands to recruit new members and test their dancing skills. Today’s event started with the handover of pickup trucks donated by SCOA to the Carnival Calabar bands association {CCBA}. The chairman of CCBA senator Florence Ita Giwa presented the vehicles to the First Lady.
The Theme of the 2014 carnival “Celebration Time” was unveiled by the Deputy Governor Barrister Effiok Cobham assisted by his wife and the first Lady of Cross River State Mrs Obioma Liyel Imoke. After the flag off the VIP revelers joined the new Double decker bus launched for the event.
The dry Run goes through the whole 12km of the carnival route. the whole town turns out to watch the rehearsal which takes a life of its own. It’s a miniature version of the real thing. Exciting and fun to watch. The real spectacle will come on the 27th of December when the real show begins with over 50000 dancers let loose on the town.
