As part of efforts to promote Destination Gambia as a year-round holiday paradise, a total of 168 tourists on Monday arrived in Banjul, as the summer season gets underway.
The airbus -Corendon Airlines was received on arrival at the Banjul International Airport by officials of The Gambia Tourism Board, FTI as well as other stakeholders in the hospitality industry.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the landing, Soren Damstrup, general manager, Meeting Point Gambia said that was the maiden flight from Germany this summer with 168 tourists on board.
“It is a direct flight from Germany and is coming four times per week from different airports in Germany. The flight will continue every week until the end of October. We have no off-season in The Gambia now,” he said.
Damstrup indicated that these are parts of broader efforts in promoting and introducing Destination Gambia as a year round destination, saying it is not sustainable to have tourists only for five months.
“We are going to keep on pushing to get other flights from other destinations to fly to The Gambia.”
He added that they are expecting another flight on Wednesday which is also expected to arrive with more passengers.
He extolled the positive nature of people in having all year round tourism in The Gambia. This, he said, is because it is not sustainable to have only five months season, aside from numerous economic benefits that people in the industry stand to enjoy.
