The Minister of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has assured industry players of the Ministry’s intent to sanitize the creative arts industry through the passage of the films bill.
The Sector Minister made this known during an interactive meeting with members of the Ghana Actors
Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said Cabinet has approved the film bill, and it is now in Parliament to be passed into law. She added that, the Ministry will soon roll out a sensitization program particularly for the industry players to solicit their inputs and fill in the gaps that may have arisen.
She assured the Actors of the ministry’s support in reviving the film industry, and using it as a catalyst to preserve and promote our cultural values.
Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare appealed to the members to join her “Explore Ghana Campaign” which seeks to encourage Ghanaians to embark on domestic tourism and appreciate Ghana’s tourism potential.
She advised members of the Guild to contribute to the Social Security for National Trust (SSNIT) for cushion when they are the twilight of their career, which will be their anchor during retirement.
Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare used the opportunity to invite the Actors and Actresses to be part of this year’s Okwawu Paragliding Festival which starts on Friday at Atibie, Kwahu in the Eastern Region.
In a chat with the Tourism Minister, the Actors Guild led by its President, Rev. Eddie Coffie thanked her for taking time off her busy schedule to host them at dinner, as well as having one-one interactions with them on the state of the creative arts industry.
He added that, the Actors’ Guild was willing to partner the ministry in their projects. Rev. Eddie Coffie was full of praise for the sector Minister for her appreciation of the film and creative arts sector as a vehicle to promote national pride.
He appealed to the Minister to help the Guild raise funds for its aged members. Some members of the Actors Guild proposed collaboration with the Ministry to stage a Real Ghana film festival where indigenous concepts and productions embedded in our culture will be premiered.
Board chairman of Ghana Tourism Authority and a member of the Cultural forum of Ghana Mr. Akunu Dake, called for the players in the creative arts industry to institute fund and seek corporate support of which he thinks it will be a major step to develop the welfare of its members.
