Tourism: Dubai, South Africa, NCAC win best stands award as Gambia wins Jollof rice challenge at Akwaaba 2018

Dubai Tourism has emerged the winner of the overall Best stand award at the just concluded 14th edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market held at Eko Hotel, Lagos.

South Africa Tourism (SAT) emerged the winner of Best African Stand Award while the Nigeria Council for Art and Culture (NCAC), emerged the winner of the best Nigerian stand award.

Other winners include Travelstart Nigeria which won Best Travel Trade stand award and Air Namibia which won Best Airline Stand Award.

Akwaaba Travel Market 2018 edition showcased unique and colourful stands as various destinations and organisations stepped up their marketing and promotions drives to gain advantage of the huge market that turned up for this year’s exhibitions.

While business was the main thrust, exhibiting destinations and organizations were aware of the fact that there was also a competition for the best stands award. The judgment for the best stand award was left to the visitors to be the judge through a general poll of nominations. So, the stand with the highest nominations for a particular category emerges the winner.

The event which had participants from 17 African countries and over 80 travel organisations in attendance which Dubai Tourism winning the overall stand award. This feat means that Dubai Tourism has won the award back to back for three consecutive years in a row!

Dubai became the darling of visitors at the yearly travel and tourism expo using an ultra-fine appeal in wooing visitors alongside fantastic packages, souvenirs and refreshments among others. Added to its style of attracting visitors to its stand, the company also had music icon, Olubankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W, the famous vlogger and OAP, Toke Makinwa, and other celebrities at its stand.

Also, South Africa Tourism (SAT) emerged the winner of Best African Stand Award. SAT stand was a beehive of activities with participants thronging to the stand to have a selfie or photo shoot with the two people dressed in beautiful South African attires that depicts the country’s cultural heritage.

Guests were thrilled with the innovation adopted by SAT during the event as it kept attracting participants with various tourism sites of the country, with different pictures of places in South Africa being changed each day as its stand’s backdrop.

Nigeria Council for Art and Culture (NCAC) emerged the winner of the best Nigerian stand award. The council wowed guests at the event with its different cultural artifacts on display, couple with branded souvenirs and indigenous products produced by the council.

Travelstart Nigeria, an online booking platform emerged winner of the best Travel Trade stand. Ida Cham of Yabouy Home cooking from The Gambia emerged winner of the Jollof Rice challenge. While Air Namibia won the best airline stand.
