Africa: Emirates to commence twice daily flight operations from Abuja Airport

The United Arab Emirates’ mega carrier, Emirates Airlines is set to increase its flight frequency from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja to twice daily operations.

The airline which commenced daily operation from the airport last month said it will be operating extra flights from Abuja in the months of July and August 2019.

Emirates in its newsletter stated that the extra flights offer air travellers more opportunities to connect to favourite Emirates destinations across the globe at competitive fares.

The airline said it will have two departures from Abuja on the 28JUL, 29JUL, 30JUL & 31JUL, 01AUG, 20AUG, 21AUG, 23AUG & 24AUG.

Emirates said it plans to grow is operation in Africa has consistently expanded route network in the continent.

According to atqnews.com, Senior Vice-President of Commercial Operations in Africa for Emirates, Orhan Abbas, said Africa has been one of the strong performing markets for the carrier over the past two years, even amid challenges there.

Abbas said the growth in travel into and out of Africa stems from various sectors including leisure, business travel, trade, and religious travel especially for Haj and umrah from West Africa.
Within the continent, Emirates said it has seen significant growth specifically in Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, and Nigeria.

Emirates carried the highest number of passengers on international routes with 23,630 and 24,955 inbound and outbound passengers, respectively, according to the figures released by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), early in the year.
