The Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area Enugu State, Chief Emeka Ozoagu, has appealed for international intervention to develop tourist sites in the area. Ozoagu made the appeal in Enugu when he briefed newsmen at the Enugu International Trade Fair.
He said the intervention was necessary to increase tourism attraction sites, as well as enhanced revenue and development in the state. The council chairman listed some of the potential tourist sites that were yet to be developed in the area to include Heneke Lake, Ogba Caveko and Obunofia Spring, all in Ezeagu council area. Ozoagu said that trade fairs were avenues to liaise with foreigners to harness the sites, adding that the council was working to get these interventions. He said that the local government had spent about N6.9 million to develop the Obunofia spring.
Ozoagu said that more work was needed to be done to bring the site to international standard. According to him, the state government was doing its best to develop some of the tourism is through its Ministry of Culture and Tourism. “There are lots of tourist sites in Ezeagu Local Government Area.”Last year, I spent over N6.9 million to develop the Obunofia spring. “I was able to build what we call ‘African a thatch houses’ and built bridges across the spring.”Students from various universities now come there for their picnics. We want more of that. “We cannot develop all these sites alone. We need more government and international presence to develop them,” he said.
