pilotEXPERTS under the aegis of Women in Aviation have urged President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint the first female pilot in the country, Captain Chinyere Kalu, as the next minister of aviation.

The experts comprising pilots, maintenance technicians, flight attendants and airport managers, in making the demand, insisted that professionalism should be the basis for selection of a minister for the aviation sector which they noted required high-level technicalities and precision.

In speaking on behalf of the experts in Abuja, the spokesperson of the Women in Aviation, Nigerian chapter, Safiya Ibrahim Ogoh noted that Captain Kalu had paid her dues in the sector for over 35 years and had an enviable record with a proven track-record and pedigree for rapid development.

She described Kalu as a legend and unsung hero who had zero tolerance for corruption.

According to her, Captain Kalu had demonstrated capacity to transform the sector as evidenced by her proven records in her short term as Rector, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria.

“We endorse her because she has the capability and capacity for performance.
She has all it takes as a woman professional; she is very prudent with a verifiable record of achievements,” Ogoh said.
