Africa World Airlines has denied reports in the international press claiming it to be on the cusp of ordering ARJ21-700s from COMAC.

Earlier in the day, Bloomberg had quoted the Ghanaian carrier’s chief executive, John Quan, as saying it was nearing a potential order for two of the jets. However, an AWA spokesperson has since confirmed to ch-aviation that although a COMAC delegation is expected in Accra later this month to discuss its products, there are no plans to acquire any at this time.

“We are speaking with COMAC and hope to get more information on the exciting new product they are proposing to sell to us, but there are no plans to order any aircraft at this time,” the spokesperson said.

A COMAC spokesperson has since corroborated AWA’s statement adding that it is not aware of any imminent ARJ21 order from the Ghanaians.

Africa World Airlines (AWA) is a joint venture co-financed by the HNA Group, China-Africa Development Fund, Ghana Social Security and National Insurance Trust, and Ghana Strategic African Securities. It currently operates eight E145s on scheduled passenger flights spanning Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and soon, the Ivory Coast.
