Kenya Airways (KQ) has been ranked 22 out of 77 world’s best airlines and third in Africa in a recent study published by AirHelp, an aviation review company.

The Airline managed an average score of 7.9 points in a study that examined the carrier’s on-time performance, quality of service and claim processing.

Qatar Airways was ranked as the best with 9.08 points, while Germany’s Lufthansa Airways came second (8.57) and Etihad Airways from the United Arab Emirates was third with a score of 8.43.

These ratings come amid a time KQ is struggling to remain afloat owing to a serious cash crunch. Tough competition has also come its way as Air Tanzania and Air Rwanda have announced plans to introduce cheaper regional flights.

AirHelp study was based on data collected from all the airlines between December 2017 and March 2018. In Africa, South African Airways came first with 8.31 points and at the global scene it was ranked as the fifth best airline.

Ethiopian Airlines was second in Africa with a score of 7.85. Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Managing Director Jonny Andersen said the recognition was timely. He added direct flights to the US to be launched in October 2018 and upgrading of infrastructure at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will see the ratings improve when next done.
