How did Miss Zimbabwe (pictured left) come to embroil herself in scandal?
Thabiso Phiri, Miss Zimbabwe has been forced to resign not less than 60 days after been crowned after nude pictures of her courtesy of her boyfriend began to make the rounds on social media.
The faux pas it seems came to be exacerbated after Thabiso Phiri, Miss Zimbabwe sent her boyfriend images who inexplicably took to sharing them on social media where they soon went viral.
At the time when Thabiso Phiri was asked to give up her title no official reason had been offered, leaving many to wonder if Thabiso Phiri, Miss Zimbabwe may have been pregnant which is against pageant rules.
Offered Zimbabwe’s Sunday Mail: ‘Reliable sources said Phiri photographed herself while in the nude and sent the images to her lover, who in turn allegedly leaked them via social media platforms.”
The paper added: ‘It is understood that she stepped down to protect the reputation of the Miss Zimbabwe Trust ahead of the Miss World pageant.’
A statement released by the Miss Zimbabwe Trust also came to tell: ‘Due to circumstances unforeseen at the time of holding the Miss Zimbabwe pageant on June 14 and which circumstances are peculiar and personal to the winner of the pageant, Miss Thabiso Phiri, it has become imperative that she steps down as the queen.
“It must be emphasised that the decision by Miss Thabiso Phiri to step down is personal to her and no duress or undue influence [has been] brought to bear upon her in making this decision… The Miss Zimbabwe Trust regrets this turn of events after putting so much resources into the event leading to her being crowned,’ the statement added.
Thabiso Phiri, who had already begun promoting a new brand of make-up in Zimbabwe, said: ‘Right now I can confirm that I have stepped down.’
The scotsman reports that the law student had come to be selected out of 26 finalists to take the Miss Zimbabwe title at a black-tie ceremony in Harare on 14 June.
Apart from the Miss Zimbabwe contest, Thabiso Phiri took part in the first edition of Carnival Queen and was crowned Miss Heritage 2013.
The Zimbabwe beauty had been set to attend the Miss World finals in London in December. An honor that she will suddenly have to pass up on given unforeseen events….
