Mozambique withdraws from Indaba as xenophobic backlash continues

The Mozambique Tourism Authority (INATUR) has withdrawn from the Indaba trade show, taking place in Durban from May 9-11.

The authority notified the trade of its decision not to participate on Friday, noting that the decision follows xenophobia acts plaguing the country and in particular the city of Durban.

The xenophobic incidents have been condemned by South Africa’s Department of Tourism and its marketing agency SA Tourism, while the department maintained last week that tourism to SA is unaffected by the recent incidents.

The City of Durban has also assured delegates that the show would not be affected by recent violent attacks directed at foreign nationals.
