News: Cristiano Ronaldo close to surpassing Pele as the highest goal scorer in football history as he equals Romario


Cristiano Ronaldo is unstoppable with the goals. The vast majority of footballers begin to decline in their early-to-mid 30s.

But not Cristiano Ronaldo. With a brace against Lazio last Sunday night, the 35 year old Portuguese superstar became the first player to score 50 goals in Serie A, EPL and La Liga.

He also became the fastest player to score 50 goals in Serie A. He has also reached another milestone as his two goals have moved him to joint-second in the list of most official goals scored.

According to, Ronaldo’s second in the game was his 734th official goal, equaling what Brazilian legend Romario has scored in his career. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner now has only Pele ahead of him, with the Brazilian legend recorded to have scored 767 official goals in his career.

Pele’s record seems likely to broken by Ronaldo next season as the Portuguese has not shown any signs of slowing down despite turning 35 in February earlier this year.
