In a major shake-up of airport procedures, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially signed the VPass E-Gate System agreement today, putting an end to the long-standing practice of manual passenger checks at local airports.
Under the new biometric system, travellers will no longer need to present physical documents for routine inspection at entry points. Instead, facial recognition technology will instantly identify passengers as they approach the airport entrance, allowing for seamless and contactless access.
The agreement, signed at the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development in Abuja, brings together key stakeholders to deploy the system across all FAAN-managed local airports.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, described the move as a transformative leap in digital security and passenger facilitation.
The VPass E-Gate system is expected to drastically reduce queues, strengthen security architecture, boost revenue generation and deliver a smoother, modern travel experience for Nigerians.
