Suspected pirates attacked a chemical tanker Curacao Trader in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Nigeria.

According to EturboNews, 13 of the 19 crew members were kidnapped when eight armed men boarded the vessel. Among the captured sailors are six citizens of Ukraine. The ship crew consisted of Russian and Ukrainian citizens.

The Gulf of Guinea, which is surrounded by eight oil-exporting countries, has become a major pirate hotspot in recent years. In 2020, the number of kidnappings in the Gulf of Guinea increased by 20% compared to 2019.
