Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, says there are now eight confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country.
The Minister said at a press conference Wednesday that five persons have been confirmed with the virus – four in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital while one has been confirmed in Ekiti State, about 380 kms from Lagos.
RELIABLESOURCENG.COM gathered that out of the five new cases four are Nigerians. They include a mother and her six-week-old baby who came in from the United States and another two persons who came in from the United Kingdom.
The fifth person, a foreign national, was said to have come in through the land border, making it the first recorded infection via land border in Nigeria.
“I regret to announce the confirmation of 5 new #COVID19 cases in #Nigeria bringing the total no. of confirmed cases to 8.
“We have intensified contact tracing for these cases to control the risk of spread and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is already supporting the response efforts,” the minister announced while updating the nation via his Twitter handle.
All the patients are being followed up and supported by state health authorities and the NCDC, the minister informed.
