Wild Africa Fund has partnered with former Big Brother Nigeria Housemate and musician, Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba, known as Laycon as part of its efforts of creating awareness of the ecological risks of eating illegal bushmeat and its trade.
According to Punch, Laycon, under the imprints of his foundation, Laycon Cares Foundation, will work with Wild Africa Fund as its Nigerian ambassador to protect Nigeria’s declining wildlife population. He joins other influential Nigerian ambassadors such as musicians Davido, Mayorkun, and footballer Alex Iwobi. The partnership with Laycon is considered strategic due to his appeal to the younger generation and his overall influence on them.
The Wild Africa Fund is a non-profit organization that employs mass communications such as the “Music for Wildlife” and “Poaching steals from us all” campaigns to change attitudes to poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict.
Wild Africa Fund also promotes wildlife tourism and carbon offset as a new conservation and sustainable development funding source. It also promotes and directly supports local wildlife programs from offices in Cape Town, Lagos, and Kigali and runs the programs previously under WildAid in South Africa, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe.
Speaking, Laycon said he believes his objective in life is to impact society and the world and with the influence he has gained over time, “I now have a duty to use it to bring about positive change.”
“For this reason, I couldn’t be more thrilled to collaborate with the Wild Africa Fund and the Laycon Cares Foundation to inform the general public about the importance of protecting our planet and the most effective means of doing so,” he said. On their part, said Wild Africa Fund’s Nigeria Representative, Festus Iyorah believes that the NGO’s collaboration with him will increase awareness about the need to conserve Nigeria’s amazing wildlife.
