News: UNWTO Celebrates Winners of 2023 Video Competition Showcasing Tourism’s Positive Impact

In a dazzling display of visual storytelling, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) recently concluded its 2023 Video Competition, dedicated to leveraging the power of film to spotlight the positive influence of tourism on communities worldwide.

According to guardian.ng, Member States from diverse regions eagerly participated in the competition, submitting videos that aimed to convey the transformative impact of tourism. A distinguished jury, comprised of top media professionals, meticulously evaluated the entries based on their ability to communicate the constructive aspects of tourism.

The competition featured two categories, each shedding light on different facets of tourism’s role in shaping a better world. The first category, “Tourism and the Decade of Action,” focused on showcasing how the tourism sector contributes to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Global Goals. Meanwhile, the second category, “Exceptional Stories of Sustainable Tourism,” sought remarkable examples that highlight the human face of tourism, emphasizing its positive social impact on communities and individuals. Uzbekistan, received global acclaim for their exceptional contributions. In the “Tourism and the Decade of Action” category, the honorees included Africa: The Gambia with “Welcome to Gambia,” Americas: Panamá with “Panamá vive por más,” Asia and the Pacific: Philippines with “Tourism Heroes of Palawan,” Europe: Georgia with “Stumari,” and the Middle East: Oman with “Experience Oman.”

The second category, “Exceptional Stories of Sustainable Tourism,” celebrated the outstanding efforts of Africa: Kenya with “Magical Kenya,” Americas: Panama with “Panamá vive por más,” Asia and the Pacific: Philippines with “Tourism Hero of Zamboanga City,” Europe: Switzerland with “My Swisstainable Journey – Ivano Künzli,” and the Middle East: Egypt with “Visit Esna.” These cinematic masterpieces not only captivated audiences with their storytelling prowess but also served as a testament to the potential of tourism as a force for positive change. The UNWTO’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating such impactful narratives underscores the organization’s dedication to promoting sustainable tourism practices and fostering a global appreciation for the profound benefits that tourism can bring to communities around the world.
