A Nigerian physician, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu landed his single-engine airplane in a highway in northern New Jersey, but he was not hurt.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the Cessna C150, with only the pilot aboard, landed on Route 23 in West Milford on Thursday.
No vehicles were hit by the plane and the aircraft did not appear to sustain any major damage. It landed around 1 p.m. and was removed from the highway by 2:30 p.m.
All lanes have now been reopened.
The plane was registered to 51-year-old Christopher Okechukwu of Paramus, New Jersey.
Dr. Okechukwu, whose office is based in Paramus but lives in Newton, NJ, specialized in internal medicine. During an interview, he was asked whether he would be taking off again in an airplane, he replied that as soon as his engine is replaced, he would be flying again.
