The Nigerian Government has issued a travel advisory over the possible fear of the spread of the deadly coronavirus, urging government functionaries and business executives not to travel to China for the time being.

According to independent.ng, the government said all flights and passengers coming from China to Nigeria must be quarantined for at least two weeks to ascertain their health status before they are allowed to mix up freely with other citizens.

It stated that, beyond this, any sick person identified in flights coming from China must be reported to the Nigerian government before landing at any of the designated airports.

These directives were announced by the Minister of Health, Professor Osagie Ehanire shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja, Wednesday.

In a related development, Lagos State Government on Wednesday said it has reached an agreement with the China Embassy in Nigeria to quarantine all Chinese travelling back to Lagos from their country in order to avert outbreak of deadly Coronavirus in the State.

The government said it was putting adequate measures in place to combat possible outbreak of the disease in the state.

According to lagospanorama.com, Commissioner for Heath, Prof. Akin Abayomi said the government was leaving nothing to chance to prevent outbreak of the disease in Lagos.

Akin Abayomi stated this at a news conference at the Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

According Abayomi, many people in China living in Lagos had travelled back to their country to celebrate the Chinese New Year and had not returned before the outbreak of Coronavirus in their country.

He said anytime from now, many of them might be thinking of returning to Lagos for their businesses, which he said portended great risk of possible outbreak in Lagos.

Abayomi stated that the state government had met with the Chinese Embassy and that they agreed to send message to their people in China to stay back until the outbreak is curtailed before returning.

The commissioner said if some of them returned in the next few days, the state government had the instruction of the China Embassy to quarantine such Chinese for 14 days to see if they would present symptom of Coronavirus in order to avoid spread of the disease.

I do like the way you have presented this specific situation and it really does offer me a lot of fodder for thought. However, coming from everything that I have personally seen, I really wish when other commentary pile on that people stay on issue and don’t get started on a soap box regarding the news du jour.
