The North Central Zonal office of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation NTDC Jos celebrates this year’s united Nations world tourism day UNWTO in Jos the Plateau State Capital with the theme ‘Tourism and the digital transformation’.
The North Central zonal Coordinator of NTDC, Mrs Nanna D Yakubu welcomed all, she said World tourism day is a celebration of pride of place for tourism in the global economy and also a celebration of pride for us in Nigeria,the fact that a Nigerian the first director general of Nigerian tourism development corporation raised the motion 35 years ago at the UNWTO meeting and call for the need to declare a day to globaly celebrate tourism.
Reading the The Director General message Mr Folorunsho coker for this year Mrs Yakubu said this year’s world tourism day highlights the need for investment in disruptive digital technologies that can help Forster an environment for innovation an entrepreneurship in tourism. Tourism practitioners from both public and private sectors and also Royal fathers within the North central zone with delegates from Nasarawa, Niger and plateau states were ably represented.
Good will messages were delivered by Royal father of the day, the Saf Butura, of Butura kingdom, Dah Engr John Gabriel Mallo Makwal who graced the occasion with his 25 council of chiefs and mentioned that Butura is where a Heritage site that dates back to 2000 years called the Tarsh Bridge which is a stone causeway raising above water was located .He also announced that the NAHWAI annual cultural festival of Butura land Bokkos will be coming up in February 2019.
Also representing the plateau Commissioner for Tourism is Director Tourism Mr John Danbaba
Dignitaries who graced the occasion includes The Curator National Museum Jos, Mrs Yashim, The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism Nassarawa State, Mr Muhammad Zakari and his contingent, Niger state tourism corporation and team Heads of department led by the General Manager, Niger State Tourism Corporation Mrs Rebecca Salka who represent the Niger state Tourism Commissioner, Mr Sunday Daniel kolo, Gm Plateau state tourism corporation and his team,curator National gallery Mr Bukar and team
Highlights of the occasion were exhibitions by the NTDC zonal office Jos, Niger and Nasarawa states, National gallery of arts .and private exhibitors,and cutting of the smartphone digital cake in line with the theme.
There is also playlets by NYSC tourism club and students of department of hospitality school of health Zawan, Cultural Dance presentation by Buji women and Traditional Berom Xylophone Music.
Medical Tourism through free optical services and sugar level test by Jordan eye hospital Jos was on standby at the event, and camping season on the plateau was launched by camping specialist Dr Babajide Agboola an environmentalist which was declared by open by Honorable commissioner Nasarawa and SSA on Tourism to plateau state governor Mr John Best.
Also present were the wayfarers hike and tour group, Jos Nollywood iconic Award, Jos National guilds of actors plateau chapter, ATPN plateau chapter, Jos Carnival LOC Chairman, Commander Peace Corps, JTF commandant, NHA plateau chapter, zonal Director NBC, Directors social services local govt Authorities among others.
