1. Nigeria Sacked The German Coach.
Mr Rohr was a stable hand they said. Consistent and level headed but he lacked the capacity to inspire both team and country. He needed to go.
2. We Have No Super Star In Our Team
The former Nigerian coach Gernot Rohr said that Nigeria lacked stars as no Nigerian played for the top 4 teams in England. He said Osimhen of Napoli and Ndidi of Leicester are yet to arrive at the top as compared to Egypt’s Mo Sallah, Algerian, Mahrez and Senegalese, Mane. I agree with him but for a different reason. There is no big boy demanding for the ball from the younger players. No big boy coming late to camp and demanding to play.
This year we did not hear of big boys demanding for money before a match. Nobody is fighting the coach. No Mafia Camps in the team.
Anybody can be changed by the coach so team spirit is high.
3. Nigerians Are Divided
When there is crisis in Nigeria the Super Eagles become the unifying factor. Just like during the Abacha days, the team is the major national brand acceptable to all Nigerians. As Nigeria is experiencing serious political, economic and societal crisis, the Super Eagles are the salve the nation needs.
4. Our Coach Is A Member Of The Nigerian Football Mafia.
The politics of Nigerian football cripples any coach who comes to handle the team.
Coach Westerhof had access to the VP Aikhomu so could not be bullied by the FA. He won the AFCON. Coach Stephen Keshi also known as the Big Boss was the Head of the player Mafia. As the most successful Nigerian footballer he was a powerful personality.
He won the AFCON. Amodu Shuaibu was one of the best coaches Nigeria ever produced. He qualifies Nigeria for tournaments and foreign coaches are then brought in to prosecute the tournaments. He did not win AFCON.
Augustine Eguavoen was the Deputy to Keshi and currently the Technical Director of the team he cannot be bullied by the FA. We hope he wins AFCON.
5. Augustine Eguavoen Is Not An Igbo Man.
So he can play as many Igbo players as he likes without being accused of a tribal agenda. Only Coach Westerhof could do that. Recently in Abuja a woman went and accused the junior Minister of Education of such an agenda. She wanted to know why most of the students at the gifted Children High School were full of Igbo children. Even when the principal, a non-Igbo Muslim woman from the north explained that it is students with the highest scores that were admitted since the school started. The lady still accused the Minister of State, Education who is an Igbo of being responsible for the state of affairs. The senior Minister is a Muslim Northerner but he was not accused and the junior Minister had just been appointed. That is how Nigeria’s funny tribal politics is played.
If Coach Eguavoen is an Igbo man there would have been a lot of opposition to his team. With so many Igbo players in a starting eleven at AFCON, the tribal fault lines would have appeared. When Christian Chukwu was a coach, a lot of Tribal Warriors were on social media questioning why he had So many “Omo Nna” in his team.
If Eguavoen is Igbo the Noise from those for him and those against him would have been a big Distraction. Biafra is a divisive Topic in Nigeria and would have been dragged into the Whole Tournament.
