Egypt has emerged as the African country with the highest number of Facebook users, recording 58.4 million active accounts, according to new figures released by social media analytics firm Napoleon Cat.
Nigeria follows as the second-largest Facebook market on the continent with 45.5 million users, while South Africa ranks third with 33.3 million.
Algeria and Morocco complete the top five, with 33.1 million and 29.3 million users respectively, underscoring North Africa’s dominance on the platform.
Kenya leads East Africa with 20.1 million users, ahead of Ethiopia (11.6 million), Tanzania (10.3 million), and DR Congo (9.4 million). Ghana also features in the top 10, registering 10.4 million users.

Analysts say the numbers show Facebook’s continuing relevance in Africa despite the rapid rise of newer platforms.
With mobile penetration expanding and young populations increasingly active online, Facebook remains a central space for social interaction, business promotion, entertainment, and political engagement across the continent.
