Meta Platforms, formerly named Facebook has been ranked as the most popular social media app for the month of January 2023 with more than 2.9 billion monthly active users, according to statista.com.
This is just as YouTube and Whatsapp emerged second and third with over 2.5 billion and 2 billion active users in the same month respectively.
Instagram a photo and video sharing social networking service had 2 billion users and Chinese instant messaging, social media app, WeChat had over 1.3 billion active users.
TikTok, another Chinese short-form video hosting service owned by ByteDance had over 1.1 billion active users as at January 2023 while facebook messenger, another instant messaging app developed by Meta Platforms 931 million users.
Other social media network apps had significant number of active users in the month of January, like Douyin, 715 million, Telegram 700 million, Snapchat 635 million, and Kuaishou 626 million.
Also, Sina Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website had 584 million, QQ 574 million, twitter 556 million and Pinterest 445 million.
