Africa: Tourism Influencers, Stakeholders Set To Storm Akwaaba Travel Market

This year’s Akwaaba Travel market promises to be great as more stakeholders, influencers and experts are set to grace the event slated to hold at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, Nigeria on 9th – 11th September 2018.

The 3 days high packed event will kick off with the Culinary Tourism Contest “Jollof Rice Competition” with the promoter of African Cuisine, Senator Florence Ita Giwa as a special guest. Last year saw Nigeria and Ghana compete against each other as Nigeria defeated Ghana.

With the Gambia confirming attendance, this year will see 3 West African countries compete against each other. The 3 West African countries are Nigeria, Ghana and Gambia.
On the Nigeria day, Otunba Runsewe, the Director General of the Nigerian Council of Arts and Culture and his team will present the Nigeria rich culture to the world. This will be a replica of what the Director-General presented in Russia during the world cup. During the 2018 Russia World Cup, Otunba and his team thrilled thousands of football lovers with the Nigeria rich culture, sound and dance.

On promoting the Gambia, the Gambians will have a big day after the jollof rice competition. With 20 man delegate including top stakeholders, Gambia is set to showcase the rich tourist attractions they have to offer. From the taste of Gambia cuisine to the rhythm of Gambia sound.

The Gambians are not stopping till the influencers, stakeholders and participants see the reason why they are called the “smiling coast of Africa” The Gambia will spice up their day with a raffle draw and the winner will have a week stay in Banjul, Gambia.

The United Arab Emirates is not left out as over 15 top tour operators from Dubai are set to attend this year’s Akwaaba Travel market. As it already known, Dubai is a big destination for Nigerians with over 20 flights from Nigeria to Dubai daily.

During the 13th Edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market last year, top 100 women in Hospitality, Travel and Tourism were awarded for their excellent contribution to the industry. Following the success of the program, the organizer of Akwaaba African Travel Market, Ikechi Uko, decided to reorganize and award top 100 African tour operators for their efforts in promoting, marketing and selling Africa to the world. The aim is to encourage them to continue promoting African Tourism.

The youths will have their day on the 11th September as they discuss on the topic “What Drives The Youth Tourism Market: Adventure, Leisure or Entertainment.” The general manager of tour brokers international, Odion Chigbufue, will deliver a keynote speech as other experienced youths deliberate on the youth tourism market.

Other discussants includes Wonuola Olatunde-Lamidi Co-Founder D&P Travels, Chiamaka Obuekwe MD Social Prefects Tours, Adebayo A. Ajayi MD A-Bay Tours, Tina Nwanya MD Nje Tours, Michael Balogun MD Tour2Nigeria, Cecile Mambo Doumbe MD CMD Tours, Debbie Egwuogu MD Waka with Debbie, Geraldine Itoe MD Novarosta Limited and Ebele Enemchukwu former Mrs.Tourism UN World.

The Tourism beauty queens will spice up the youth section as they are set to grace the 14th edition of African Travel Market. The beauty queens include Most beautiful Igbo Girl Universal, Former and current miss tourism United nations, Miss Tourism culture and so on.
