Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa (Turakin Kebbi), the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Kebbi State on Tourism who is also the Director General of Argungu International Fishing & cultural festival has been listed in the Top 100 Tourism Personalities in Nigeria 2018.
The listing of the Top 100 Tourism Personalities in Nigeria by Travellers Magazine is historic and an effort to cast in gold the faces of the people who are behind the great effort and deep sacrifices in promoting tourism in Nigeria despite the harsh conditions they operate within the tourism landscape in Nigeria. Travellers Magazine is the first travel magazine in West Africa, remaining consistent in its publications for over 22 years.
Top 100 Tourism Personalities in Nigeria list was set up to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves as foremost and outstanding drivers in the travel and tourism industry in Nigeria; and through their efforts and or that of their organizations have impacted positively on the travel and tourism sector in Nigeria, stimulating and helping to achieve the country’s tourism goals and forging interactions among stakeholders and customers across the country. This is the second edition. In 1999 Travellers Magazine published its first Compilation of the Nigerian Top 100 Tourism Club. Almost two decades later the list needs to be updated. Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa has been honoured to have emerged on that list.
Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa, was born in Argungu, on the 10th of May, 1970. He holds an OND in Business Administration from the Kebbi State Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, B.Sc. in Political Science from the Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto and was sponsored by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to attend a high level Post- Graduate Diploma on Tourism Policy and Strategy, Applied to Destination Management Organization (DMO) at the Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, Milan, Italy.
He worked in several offices such as the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture & National Orientation, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development and the Ministry of Interior.
By sheer providence and dint of hard work, Nura Sani Kangiwa held so many official responsibilities such as: Secretary, Publicity Sub-Committee – United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission for Africa, Meeting in Abuja – 2002; Secretary, Media & Publicity Sub-Committee – 2nd Commonwealth Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Abuja – 2005; Secretary, Publicity Sub-Committee UNWTO Regional Conference on Tourism Communications (TOURCOM), Lagos – 2005; Secretary, Information & Publicity Sub-Committee – 10th Africa Travel Association Eco-Tourism Symposium- Calabar- 2006; Head of Marketing and Public Relations – Abuja Carnival 2005/2006/2007; Desk Officer, World Tourism Day (WTD) 2006/2007/2008; Secretary, Entertainment Sub-Committee, Presidential Inauguration Committee (YarAdua/ Goodluck) – 2007;Member, Nigerian Tourism Development Master Plan Implementation Committee – 2007/2008/2009; Secretary, Exhibition Sub-Committee – Presidential Committee on Nigeria’s 50th Independence Anniversary Celebration (Nigeria @ 50) – 2010.
Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa also attended many important meetings and conferences at home and abroad, some of which were:UNWTO/ASTA Meeting & Adoption of the Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism- Montreal, Canada, 2005;(ATA) Africa Travel Association’s Awareness Campaign/Roadshow for the flagging off of the Nigerian Tourism Development Master Plan in Los Angeles, New York & Atlanta- USA 2005; The Nigeria Tourism Expo (NITEX) in Atlanta, Barbados – 2008; 1st Commonwealth Conference on Sports Tourism – Sabah, Malaysia, 2008; UNWTO conference on “Tourism: Responding to a Turbulent Economy and a Changing Climate,” – Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt- 2008; Arabian Travel Market (ATM), Dubai – 2009;World Travel Market (WTM), London – 2008/2009; ITB Messe, Berlin, Germany – 2010.
To crown it all, on Tuesday, 29th August, 2010, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera, CON, conferred the exalted title of Turakin Kebbi, to him.
He is The Vice President (North West Zone) of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) and a Member of the Society of Tourism Experts & Professionals (STEP). Turaki Nura Kangiwa is also the Vice President of the Nigerian Polo Federation (NPF).
