Turkish national carrier, Turkish Airlines has cancelled 14 of its scheduled flights out of Nigeria’s aviation industry following the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus currently ravaging some countries globally.
Nigeria recorded its first coronavirus case which involved an Italian citizen who entered the country on 24 February on a Turkish Airlines flight from Milan via Istanbul.
The airline in a statement informed passengers booked on its flight that it has cancelled flight from Nigeria’s major cities of Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
It said its flight operations for Lagos scheduled to take place on the 17th. 23rd and 29th of March has been cancelled. Also, flights from Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, slated for 13th, 16th, 20th, 25th, 27th of March and 1st of April have also been cancelled.
Turkish stated it Port Harcourt flight operations for 11th, 13th, 18th, 23rd and 25th of March have also been cancelled.
The airline had previously placed a ban on all countries are most affected with the dreaded Coronavirus.
According to atqnews.com, the airline in a statement said passengers that have visited China, South Korea, Iran, Iraq, and Italy will not be allowed to board the airline.
It said the decision to stop passengers with previous record of visit to these countries was born out of the need to curtail the spread of the disease and preserve public health.
