Uganda Tourism Board [UTB] CEO Lilly Ajarova has been recognised and given a Tourism Excellence Award.
Ajarova was named among Africa Top 100 Tourism Personalities by Akwaaba African Travel Market (AFTM) and ATQ News along with some of Africa’s tourism legends like Najib Balala and Alain St Ange President of African Tourism Board.
This happened at the launch of the 5th Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo at the Speke Resort in Munyonyo.
The chief guest the first Deputy PM Hon. Moses Ali. He was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Hon. Tom Butime, Minister of State Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda, Minister of Ethics & Integrity Hon. Fr. Simon Lokodo and UTB Chairman Hon. Daudi Migereko.
Ajarova, in her remarks, said according to UNWTO, 4 out of every 5 tourists travel within their region.
“We are positioning Uganda as Africa’s premier destination. This is thanks to the single East African tourist visa as well as the upcoming African Continental Free Trade Area that will open up more African borders and skies,” she noted.
In a speech read for him by Moses Ali, Museveni applauded Uganda Tourism Board for organising the expo that he noted would go a long way in “expanding business opportunities in the tourism sector in Uganda and the entire East African region.”
Museveni told the delegates that Uganda has significantly invested in creating “peace and stability, good road networks, enough electricity supply, better telecommunications networks and internet” and these investments would enable Uganda’s tourism sector to be competitive.
