The Addis Ababa City Administration has given the green light to 30 major development projects along the capital’s corridors and riverbanks, with a total investment exceeding 733 billion Birr (about $5.3 billion).
According to birrmetrics.com, officials say the projects, structured under a public-private partnership model, aim to transform the city’s infrastructure and boost its attractiveness as a hub for business and tourism. The projects, to be implemented under public-private partnership agreements, will utilize 37 plots of city land.
Cabinet members said the projects were assessed based on their potential economic returns, job creation, and contribution to urban development. The approval follows discussions held during the city administration’s fifth-year second regular meeting.
In a separate decision, the cabinet approved new regulations for the recruitment and transfer of trainers at Addis Ababa’s technical and vocational colleges. The measures aim to improve the quality of training, enhance institutional efficiency, and provide a more structured framework for managing staff.
The city administration’s communication office said the regulation is expected to support the delivery of skilled training aligned with labor market needs, ensuring technical colleges operate effectively and meet the city’s workforce development goals.
