Tourism: Africa and Indian Ocean region contributed 40.8% to Kenya’s tourism with over 2.03 million arrivals in 2018

The Tourism and Research Institute of Kenya has said Africa and the Indian Ocean region contributed over 40% of tourist’s arrivals to the country’s tourism sector in the year 2018.

The figures released by the institute indicates with over 2.03 million tourists arriving the country Africa and the Indian Ocean are the biggest contributors to the Kenya’s tourism sector globally with over 800,000 tourists.

According to the institute, Open skies and enabling visa process have been major contributors to the growth of the figures.

It said visitors’ arrival figures for Europe stood at 30.22% at 611, 969 while Asia was pegged at13.96% at 282,624.

It said the Americas, Oceania and the Middle East had 12.22%, 1.74%, 1.02% at 247, 530, 35, 231 and 20,648 respectively.

According to the institute, other regions contributed 1,715 at 0.085%.
