As the festival marks its 20th anniversary, it continues to showcase the rich heritage, creativity and identity of the people, drawing thousands of visitors to the state each year.
Today, the cultural aspect of the carnival took centre stage as all the local government areas of Cross River State came together to celebrate their traditions. Communities from Abi, Akamkpa, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Bekwarra, Biase, Boki, Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Etung, Ikom, Obanliku, Obubra, Obudu, Odukpani, Ogoja, Yakurr and Yala proudly displayed their unique cultures through traditional food, colourful costumes, dances, music, lifestyle exhibitions and historical storytelling.

The cultural carnival is a key part of activities marking the 20th edition of Carnival Calabar, with the 2025 theme, “Traces of Time.” The theme highlights the past, present and future of the festival, while celebrating the rich history and evolution of Cross River State. Each local government creatively interpreted the theme, turning the parade into a living archive that reflected their origins, values and way of life.
People came out in large numbers to experience the cultural carnival, filling the streets with excitement and admiration while spectators enjoyed the performances. The event once again reaffirmed Carnival Calabar’s importance as a platform for cultural preservation, unity and tourism development in Cross River State.
