The Food, Beverage and Spa Manager of The Wheatbaker, Salome Danjuma, has disclosed that the hotel recorded its highest-ever revenues during the 2025 Detty December season, underscoring the growing economic impact of Nigeria’s festive tourism culture.
Speaking during the Naija7Wonders Zoom Conference 3.0 themed “Festivals and Tourism in Nigeria: A New Pathway,” Danjuma said the hotel’s newly renovated spa generated three times its usual monthly revenue after reopening in December, making it the most successful month in the spa’s eight-year history.
She added that the overall hotel also achieved record-breaking earnings as Lagos experienced a surge in local and international visitors seeking entertainment, relaxation and cultural experiences during the festive period.
According to her, many guests arriving at the hotel wanted more than accommodation, frequently asking for recommendations on shopping locations, nightlife spots, restaurants and cultural attractions.
Danjuma said the success of Detty December has positively impacted businesses across the hospitality value chain, from suppliers to hotel staff, noting that the increased revenues translated into higher earnings and improved livelihoods for workers within the sector.
