Egypt is planning to develop 14 specialised tourist centres along its Red Sea coastline as part of a strategic plan aimed at maximising the region’s tourism and investment potential.
The plan was outlined by Mostafa Abdel Wahab, CEO of the General Authority for Tourism Development, during a meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
According to Arab Finance, under the proposed strategy, coastal areas will be allocated for tourism development projects, particularly to expand hotel capacity, while inland areas will accommodate secondary homes, hotel-managed units, staff housing and supporting services. The 14 centres will be developed according to the natural resources, geographical location and competitive advantages of each area, allowing Egypt to offer a more diverse range of tourism products while improving investment efficiency along the coast.

The government plans to leverage the Red Sea region’s extensive coastline and natural assets, including opportunities for beach tourism, ecotourism and wellness tourism, alongside its renewable energy and mineral resources. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for private-sector investment and expand Egypt’s tourism infrastructure, while supporting the development of destinations beyond the country’s traditional tourism centres.
Abdel Wahab also presented development plans for northeastern Sinai, including the proposed West Arish Tourist Centre, which covers approximately 9,000 feddans, as well as development opportunities in Arish and the Zaranik area on Lake Bardawil. The Sinai plans seek to harness the area’s tourism, environmental, agricultural and logistical potential as part of a broader regional development strategy. The Red Sea development programme further underlines Egypt’s efforts to use its coastal resources to attract investment, expand accommodation capacity and diversify its tourism offering.
