Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline, is experiencing significant growth both internationally and domestically.
CEO Mesfin Tasew announced that the airline anticipates serving approximately 3.5 million domestic passengers by the end of the current budget year, which ends in June, reflecting its expanding operations and increasing influence in the aviation industry.
According to myviewsonnews.net, This is an increase of 34.6% from last year’s passenger number. Last year, 2.6 million domestic passengers traveled with Ethiopian Airlines. The airline is seeing a gradual rise in domestic passenger numbers.
Ethiopian Airline is Africa’s largest airline in terms of passengers carried, destinations served, fleet size, and revenue. It is also the world’s fourth-largest airline by the number of countries served.

To handle the growing number of travelers, Ethiopian Airlines is planning to build a new airport 40 km outside Addis Ababa. This new airport will have four times the capacity of the current Bole International Airport. The new airport will focus on international passengers and some freight services. Bole International Airport will continue to manage cargo operations, maintenance, and domestic flights.
Ethiopian Airlines is also expanding its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services with two new hangars, a component repair complex, and a modern parts warehouse. Bole Airport will remain the main hub for cargo operations. The new airport will be connected to a future airport city near Bishoftu via a fast rail network.
Mesfin Tasew said Ethiopian Airlines wants to carry more passengers. Last year, they handled 13.9 million passengers. This year, they hope the number would be around 18 million. Whereas, in the next few years, they hope to have 20 million passengers every year.
By 2035, Ethiopian Airlines wants to be one of the 20 biggest airlines in the world. Moreover, they want to make $25 billion in revenue every year. This year, they plan to make $7 billion, and they want to triple that amount in the next 11 years.
