The Gambia has recorded a significant boost to its cruise tourism profile as the luxury liner Oceania Sirena made its inaugural call at the Banjul Seaport, bringing approximately 611 passengers to the West African destination.
The vessel, operated by Oceania Cruises, docked on Wednesday morning, marking a milestone moment for the country’s growing appeal among premium cruise operators. The arrival underscores a rising trend of high-end cruise lines incorporating The Gambia into their West African itineraries.
Passengers aboard the Oceania Sirena were warmly received upon disembarkation by West African Tours Ltd, which coordinated a range of curated shore excursions across the country. The tours offered visitors immersive experiences, showcasing The Gambia’s cultural heritage, natural attractions, and hospitality offerings.

Industry stakeholders say the successful hosting of the cruise liner highlights The Gambia’s improving capacity to deliver quality services tailored to international tourists, particularly within the high-value cruise segment.
The development is expected to further strengthen the country’s positioning as an emerging destination for cruise tourism in West Africa, with authorities optimistic that more luxury liners will include Banjul in their future маршруtes, driving tourism growth and economic opportunities.
