The Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) and the Gambia Ferry Services have agreed to strengthen collaboration to address key transportation challenges affecting the country’s tourism sector, with plans underway to develop and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving service delivery.
The agreement followed a strategic meeting in Banjul led by the Director General of the GTBoard and a delegation from the tourism authority, where both institutions discussed measures to enhance the travel experience for visitors and support the growth of the tourism industry.
Among the issues deliberated upon were the need to ensure priority ferry crossing for tourist vehicles, improve the cleanliness and sanitation of ferry terminals, strengthen security and safety measures, and address operational challenges that arise during the arrival of cruise ships.
The discussions also focused on improving coordination between tourism operators and ferry service providers to ensure seamless movement of tourists across the country and to enhance The Gambia’s reputation as a visitor-friendly destination.
According to the GTBoard, efficient transportation services are critical to the country’s tourism product, particularly as ferries serve as an important link for tourists travelling to various attractions and destinations across The Gambia.
At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to develop and formalise a Memorandum of Understanding that will provide a framework for collaboration and define areas of cooperation between the two institutions.
The GTBoard said it would engage tourism stakeholders in drafting a comprehensive MoU that addresses the concerns of the industry and promotes better coordination, service standards, and operational efficiency.
The proposed partnership is expected to contribute significantly to improving visitor satisfaction, strengthening tourism infrastructure, and supporting The Gambia’s efforts to enhance its competitiveness as one of West Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
