Nigeria’s Aviation Centenary

The Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, George Uriesi, has been officially recognised as one of the 47 visionaries behind Nigeria’s airspace success over the past 100 years.

The honour was bestowed at the historic Nigeria Aviation Centenary celebration held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, on December 1, 2025.

According to press release by the airline, Uriesi received his award from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Hon. Mohammed Idris.

This recognition marks a significant milestone in Uriesi’s illustrious 34-year career in aviation, during which he has contributed extensively across airline operations, airport management, regulatory oversight, and aviation leadership both locally and internationally.

Before his appointment as Acting MD/CEO of Ibom Air, Uriesi served as Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. His career also includes distinguished roles such as Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and key positions in international aviation regulation and airport management in South Africa.

This national honour not only celebrates George Uriesi’s remarkable contributions to the aviation sector but also underscores the strength of leadership within Ibom Air and its unwavering commitment to delivering world-class service to passengers. It further reaffirms the airline’s role in advancing the quality, safety, and growth of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
