The Kenya Tourism Authority (KTA), has revoked the appointment of Pauline Njoroge following her facebook post in October 2019 criticising the relevance of the Nairobi National Park.

According to softpower.ug, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, said negative statements by Ms Njoroge about the Nairobi National Park were brought to his attention forcing him to take the decision.

“I am revoking Pauline Njoroge’s appointment as a board member of the Tourism Regulatory Authority because we have just seen what she had tweeted in the past that Nairobi National Park was useless,” CS Balala said in a statement on Saturday.

“We do not want to be associated with such people and such thinking,” he added.

According to Balala, the integrity of Nairobi National Park is very important and the government is committed to save it and any other protected area which are habitats for the country’s national heritage and wildlife.

He thanked Kenyans on social media for bringing her posts to his attention saying it highlighted what they missed when doing a background check on her.

Njoroge was appointed to the board as of 7th August 2020 through a Gazette Notice No 5462 for a period of 3 years. She even posted the appointment to the board on her Facebook which has since been deleted.

Right after her appointment, Kenyans on Twitter started sharing a post she made on Facebook about the National Park in October 2019.
That is the type of content that bewildered people since it conflicted with her appointment to the board.

Social media background checks are the routine now to ascertain whether someone is worthy of a certain position.
