Kenya has announced an ambitious $2 billion modernization and expansion programme for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport aimed at transforming the country’s primary aviation gateway over the next five years.
The project is expected to upgrade passenger facilities, expand capacity and strengthen the airport’s position as a key regional hub for travel, trade and cargo across East Africa.
According to tourismupdate.com, the Government Delivery Unit (GDU) and the Kenya Airports Authority reviewed the implementation status of airport projects across the country and unveiled a breakdown of expansion plans for NBO.
According to the GDU, priority projects for the airport include the installation of modern air bridges and other equipment by June this year, the construction of a new runway by June 2027 followed by a new terminal by 2029.
The GDU says it will work closely with the Airports Authority and other key state agencies to ensure the projects are completed on schedule and within budgets.
