The Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Wednesday intervened in a workplace misconduct case involving Sanjeev Kumar, the General Manager of Taita Hills Resort and Spa.
Kumar faces allegations of workplace abuse, racism, and mistreatment of staff, prompting regulatory action to address concerns over labor practices within the hospitality sector.
According to atqnews.com, Taita Hills and Salt Lick Safari Lodge had firmly rejected allegations of discrimination and mistreatment within its operations in a statement it earlier published.
The management emphasizes that the claims are baseless and misleading, reaffirming its dedication to ethical practices, staff welfare, and delivering exceptional guest experiences.
But the authority has recommended the cancellation of Kumar’s work permit, stating that his conduct falls short of the professionalism expected of expatriates working in Kenya’s tourism sector.
TRA Board Chair Benjamin Jomo Washiali confirmed in a press briefing that the request was forwarded to the Directorate of Immigration Services.
TRA also issued a directive to the resort’s directors, requiring them to implement several measures within 30 days.
The management must submit an HR policy and procedure manual, provide employment contracts to all staff, and process pending promotions for employees who have already been elevated but not formally recognized.
Directors must hire a new qualified general manager to oversee both Taita Hills Resort & Spa and Saltlick Game Lodge.
The resort’s compliance with these directives will be monitored, and a report must be submitted to the authority within the given timeframe.
