The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has commissioned the newly constructed Ibis Hotel in Lekki Phase I, describing the investment as another strong indication of investors’ confidence in Lagos State.
The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Esq., noted that the opening of the hotel affirmed confidence in Lagos, Nigeria’s economy and the ability of Nigerians to create businesses and facilities that can compete at an international level.
He also recalled that the Ibis brand has been part of Lagos’ hospitality history since 2013 with its 165-room hotel on Allen Avenue, Ikeja. According to the Governor, the decision to establish another hotel in Lekki further demonstrates the attractiveness of Lagos as a destination for business, investment and tourism.
He added that Lekki had grown into one of the most vibrant areas of Lagos, with major developments such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Free Trade Zone, corporate offices, technology companies and creative enterprises driving economic activity in the area. He noted that as Lagos continues to attract investors, professionals, tourists and families, the need for quality accommodation and hospitality services will continue to grow.
He also expressed delight that the hotel had already created over 150 direct jobs, noting that many more people would benefit indirectly through businesses and services supplying the hotel, including farmers, food suppliers, transport operators, laundry services and artisans.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the investment reflected the impact of the State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S.+ development agenda, which seeks to create an environment where businesses can grow, and investors can thrive. He congratulated the Chairman and Chief Executive of Ibis, Otunba Olufemi Okenla, on the commissioning and urged the management of the hotel to maintain the high standards associated with the Ibis brand while also ensuring that every guest experiences the warmth and friendliness for which Lagos is known.
He urged the hotel management team to give priority to local suppliers and continue to train young Lagosians, saying this would help ensure that the benefits of the investment reach more people.
The hotel was thereafter dedicated by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, the founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre, who prayed for the success of the business, its management and staff, as well as the safety and prosperity of all who would patronise the facility.
Earlier, the owner of Ibis Hotel, Otunba Olufemi Okenla, emphasised that the 120-room hotel was deliberately built to international standards, with soundproof rooms and modern facilities to give guests the comfort and quality expected of a world-class hotel.
He expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, his family, friends and everyone who contributed to the completion of the project.
In attendance were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, royal fathers, captains of industry, family and friends of the hotel owner and other distinguished guests.
The commissioning adds another quality hospitality facility to the rapidly developing Lekki corridor and further strengthens Lagos’ reputation as a leading destination for business, tourism, investment and leisure.
